Clunes Booktown Festival Wrap Up
Clunes Booktown Festival AKA Disneyland for readers!
What a weekend!
I wished the family goodbye on Friday morning and after a teary moment of panic that this would be the longest I’ve been away from the kids, I recovered and entered excited mode.
The drive was sponsored by coffee and audiobooks - A Court of Silver Flames to be exact, and thank you Sarah J Maas for keeping me awake for the long drive. Hello, Cassian!
I stayed in Daylesford in a teeny tiny cabin where my bed was next to my fridge, which was next to my shower, but it was clean and no rural serial killers found me as feared.
On Friday afternoon, I checked in and bumped in and met the other booksellers in my tent (more on that later!).
On Saturday morning, I drove out to Clunes early and after much needed coffee, I was at my stall and ready to go. Throughout both days I met so many lovely readers, aspiring writers, other authors, second-hand booksellers - just an amazing crowd of book loving people. I was also lucky to be near the rotunda, which hosted lots of live music from local artists.
Sunday was a little slower but I still met plenty of fab people and scored myself some adorable bookish earrings from a local store Amelia Grace Crafts.
Now, the juicy stuff. One of my neighbours was a group of about ten women who were part of, what I can only describe as, a cult. While two women manned the table, the other eight would go out harassing people about compassion and making connections, and then they’d rotate. Four times they tried to hook me in with their sickly sweet voices and creepy eye contact. They also told me to stop spreading hate because I write thrillers about murder and kidnapping. Anyway, the silver lining is, I now have a fun cult thriller idea for a new book.
Despite the awful neighbour, I had a great time at Clunes Booktown Festival and would love to return as a reader next year.
Thank you to everyone who signed up to my mailing list over the weekend. The lucky winner of the Endota Spa voucher is Rachel. You have something waiting for you in your inbox. Enjoy being pampered.
